Island Health has released the locations of 214 of the active cases.

Dr Murphy went on to urge everyone of "reproductive age" to avail of the vaccine as soon as it is offered to them, warning that the risk of contracting COVID-19 is more serious than being jabbed.

Two people died of COVID-19 Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of the first person to die of the disease in B.C., bringing the province's death toll to 1,393.

"The contractor, the provider, Telus, did not meet its contractual obligations and let down people over 90 and let down Indigenous people over 65", Dix said, referring to the two groups of British Columbians now eligible to book appointments.

However, he said Telus should be held accountable for the failure in that region.

"They contracted with a provider who is in the call centre business".

"Vancouver Coastal Health.is in the business of providing health care", Dix said.

Australia asks European Commission to review Italy's vaccine block
Italian officials were reported to have claimed the move to blockade the vaccine shipment was not unilateral. The EU has vaccinated some 8% of its population compared to more than 30% in the UK.

Telus president Darren Entwistle said in a statement he is "incredibly sorry" for the frustrations that residents have experienced and the company can and will do better.

The largest health authority in BC is Northern Health, which will operate over 30 vaccination clinics across Northern BC. Our team has been working overnight to respond to the significant demand and scale capacity by adding hundreds of additional agents.

In Question Period today, the interim leader of the BC Liberals, Shirley Bond, says instead of apologizing today, the government should have acted to make sure things were in place long before yesterday.

Fewer than 100,000 British Columbians are now eligible to book to get their Pfizer or Moderna first jabs.

The cases were among 550 found across the province over the past 24 hours, according to a joint statement from provincial health office Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.

The province is also reporting 182 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 variants of concern, for a total of 576.

"Through the loss and uncertainty that has come with this pandemic, we've seen incredible resilience as people throughout the province have adapted to the challenges COVID-19 has brought".
