While his administration has tried to deter immigrants from entering the USA, many believe they have a better chance now that Biden is President. "This is where he should talk to the border agents and let them know that this is beyond a crisis". The spike in traffic poses a challenge to President Joe Biden at a fraught moment with Congress, which is about to take up immigration legislation, and has required the help of the American Red Cross. "Staggering" numbers of unaccompanied children have flooded the border, overwhelming federal facilities where they are housed longer than legally permissible in horrendous conditions without enough light, bedding, or food.

Psaki pointed out that the number of border crossings were "enormous" and she said that the Biden administration was "using every lever of the federal government to help address that".

USA authorities encountered children traveling alone 9,457 times in February, almost double the number in January and the highest since May 2019, when the figure neared 12,000 during the peak of a Trump-era surge.

The delegation emphasized that Biden's policy to allow COVID-19 positive illegals to enter the USA and spread it to Americans who have suffered through school closures and business closures makes no sense. He argued the president's approach to immigration policy ran contrary to his cautious approach to the pandemic.

As migrants surge to the USA and American border communities report violent crimes being committed, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) is pointing at President Joe Biden's policies for the crisis. It's also significantly higher than the 76,545 encounters in February 2019, which was at the beginning of the last border crisis.

With 158 deaths in the last 24 hours, the overall death toll rose to 1,58,607. As many as 20 States/UTs have less than 1,000 Active Cases.

Biden has taken several actions to reverse the Trump administration's immigration policies, including an end to funding for Trump's border wall and a loosening of restrictions for asylum claimants. Current testing procedures for migrants at border facilities are inadequate, he added.

GOP critics have called for days for the Biden administration to refer to the situation at the border as a "crisis".

"I am incredibly proud of the agents of the Border Patrol, who have been working around the clock in hard circumstances to take care of children temporarily in our care", Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in Saturday's statement.

"We need the total number of migrants who have been apprehended at the border who have tested positive for COVID-19", Abbott said, accusing the Biden administration of having "refused" and "failed to give to our state the total number of migrants who have COVID-19".
