The United States plans to send about 4 million doses of AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine to Mexico and Canada according to a report from Reuters. "We. have a number of requests from a range of countries around the world and certainly we'll continue those conversations", she said.

President Joe Biden's press secretary, Jen Psaki, confirmed said that 2.5 million doses were being lined up for Mexico and 1.5 million for Canada. She added that the arrangement had not been finalized yet, "but that is our aim".

Only people over the age of 16 can now be vaccinated and with a population of about 31 million in that age group in Canada, the math lines up. The German government earlier said that it was in contact with US officials about the vaccine supply.

No causal link was established between the jab and the patients developing the clots but Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said the decision to pause use of the vaccine had been made on a precautionary principal.

Psaki said that once that goal is achieved, they are happy to announce the next steps to the public.

More than 300,000 front-line workers in British Columbia will now be eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations in the coming weeks.

Many European countries, including Germany, France and Italy, had suspended the vaccine's use over the past week.

United Kingdom vaccine roll-out to be slower than hoped
Speaking as the EU's vaccine rollout descended deeper into chaos, Ms von der Leyen called on Britain to begin sending AstraZeneca jabs overseas.

The United States' announcement that it will send vaccines to its neighbors - it's first foray into Covid-19 vaccine diplomacy - comes at "a critical time in negotiations with Mexico", The New York Times reported.

Of today's new cases, 156 were in Dublin, 23 in Meath, 19 in Donegal, 15 in Louth, 14 in Kildare and the remaining cases spread across 20 other counties. European Union officials told member states recently that USA -made shots wouldn't be available to Europe in the short term.

By April it will get another five million vaccine doses through global access mechanism Covax, UNICEF and other contracts.

As for the side-effects, nearly all of the COVID-19 vaccines are known to cause similar-ranging reactions which can be mild or moderate.

"We call upon all that category to report to the health facilities and get their Covid-19 vaccine", Dr Aceng said yesterday in a statement. The country's Covid vaccination campaign was off to a slow start because of supply hurdles. Mexico's total population is 126 million.

Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that terms of the AstraZeneca supply agreement with the USA still have to be ironed out. "Yes, the information is correct", Marcelo Ebrard wrote on Twitter. That compares with about 38% in the United Kingdom and 22% in the U.S.

After the virtual meeting, the Taoiseach spoke to reporters and said the USA will not know until the summer months whether it will be in a position to share its vaccines with Ireland.
