North Korea fired off short-range missiles over the weekend after it denounced the US for moving forward with joint military exercises with South Korea, Fox News has confirmed.

The senior official said that Biden administration officials had reached out to nearly all officials who have been in contact with North Korea since the 90s, including Trump administration officials who were involved in former President Donald Trump's three face-to-face meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. "There's no new wrinkle in what they did", he said.

KCNA said Kim addressed the state of the North's relations with the USA and South Korea, and said communication between him and Xi was required in the face of changed "external situations and reality", apparently referring to the new US administration.

The DPRK launched short-range missiles over the weekend, the Washington Post reported, following a round of U.S.

Those targeted by the European Union sanctions are North Korea's State Security Minister Jong Kyong Thaek, Public Security Minister Ri Yong Gil and the Central Public Prosecutor's Office.

"My guess is that it has more to do with the joint exercises than anything else".

The incident happened after Pyongyang criticised the USA and South Korea for conducting joint military exercises.

The drills earlier this month unnerved Pyongyang even though they were scaled back this year to become computer-simulated drills.

In an interview with media outlets including China Global Television Network, Xi called for cooperation between Russian Federation and China in response to hegemony pursued by some Western countries led by the U.S. Lavrov also promoted settlement of deals in currencies that can replace the U.S$. and help reduce risks posed by sanctions.

The remarks were delivered by Song Tao, a senior Chinese diplomat, and Ri Ryong Nam, North Korea's new ambassador to China, during a meeting on Monday.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has also branded the scenes "unacceptable" and said "thuggery and disorder" would never be tolerated. At least nine cars had the windscreens smashed in and vandalised as a wave of violent protest hit Bristol last night.

Biden administration officials have been consulting with Trump administration officials who took part in the Singapore talks as well as a second meeting between Kim and Trump in February 2019.

Another North Korea expert, Jeffrey Lewis, said that the tests might have been of short-range coastal defense cruise missiles.

North Korea has not tested intercontinental ballistic missiles or nuclear devices since 2017, but the secretive country is believed to have continued honing its military capabilities while nuclear negotiations with the administration of Biden's predecessor Donald Trump were in a stalemate. You've got more tensions between Japan and South Korea, and of course U.S.

They added they were in the "final stages" of their North Korea policy review and planned to host Japan and South Korea's national security advisers for a discussion soon.

The Biden administration has tried unsuccessfully to restart talks with North Korea, after over a year without active dialogue.

Relations between the USA and North Korea, once hailed as potentially promising after President Donald Trump's three meetings with Kim, have been tense with no substantive contact for more than a year. U.N. Security Council resolutions ban North Korea from engaging in any ballistic activities, but not cruise missile tests.

The exchange came as the Biden administration steps up diplomatic efforts to strengthen cooperation with Asian allies South Korea and Japan to deal with the North Korean nuclear threat and China's growing regional influence.

"We have taken efforts and we will continue to take efforts" to communicate, the official said. We've tried it at the highest levels of the head of state.

Initial outreach from Washington to Pyongyang has turned up empty, but USA officials are hopeful they can reconnect, while working in coordination with allies Japan and South Korea.
