Pfizer, BioNTech start testing COVID-19 vaccine in children under 12

The Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine was authorised by United States regulators in late December for people age 16 and older.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed 5.46 crore with 15,20,111 doses being given till Thursday evening, the Union Health Ministry said.

California is opening the COVID-19 vaccine to all adults, but the timing of scheduling an appointment remains in flux. Starting earlier this month, the state began earmarking 40% of its available COVID-19 vaccines to residents in the most disadvantaged areas - those in the lowest quartile of a socioeconomic measurement tool called the California Healthy Places Index.

Earlier this month, the state expanded vaccine eligibility to almost 5 million Californians with disabilities and underlying health conditions. The final eligibility expansion comes as the federal government has promised an increased supply of vaccine by April, and as Minnesota has become a national leader in getting shots into arms quickly. Until then, access to the vaccine has remained constrained in various parts of the state.

Castillo said the companies hope to have data from the trial in the second half of 2021.

The federal government is projecting that IL will receive almost 1 million doses next week for distribution - an all-time high. Almost 66 million doses of the vaccine had been administered in the United States as of Wednesday morning, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
