Ontario reports almost 4,500 new COVID-19 infections

The Progressive Conservative government was planning to shut down the Ontario Legislature due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Opposition NDP says, however, the government now says this is not the case.

"We made a decision based on trying to really get people to realize just how important it is that they stay home", Calandra said.

"At the height of this crisis, Doug Ford wants to shut down the legislature".

The co-chair of Ontario's COVID-19 science advisory table said he almost resigned out of "desperation" on Friday when he saw that the province had not followed some of his group's most basic recommendations, including advice on protecting essential workers.

However, many Twitter users believed that the mass shooting was yet another racist attack faced by Sikhs living in US. The eight people killed in a deadly mass shooting at a FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis have been identified.

Several police forces including those in Canada's largest city of Toronto and the national capital, Ottawa, refused and several organizations said this measure would unfairly target minorities.

"Public health leaders, science table members, municipal leaders and all opposition parties have called on Ford to deliver paid sick leave to stop the spread of virus, and he's refused". Some provinces have minimal sick pay provisions. On Saturday, the federal government announced a two-month extension for two mobile health units until June 30. People living in these areas may not have access to internet to book vaccination appointments, they may not have cars to get to inoculation sites and they may face language barriers in accessing information. He has also asked the federal government for more vaccines.

A spokeswoman for Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter, but the provincial government has previously said it will follow NACI's recommendations on the shot.

The province also logged 4,250 new infections on Sunday, along with 18 new virus-related deaths.

Green party Leader Mike Schreiner said Ford's government had "lost the trust and confidence of the people of Ontario".

They said the move was unlikely to curb the spread of COVID-19, as evidence suggests most transmission happens indoors. However, provinces will not send vaccine doses to Ontario because they need them to protect their own populations.

Set up check points at 12:01 a.m. Monday to restrict travel into Ontario from Quebec and Manitoba, with the exception of purposes such as work, health-care services, transportation and delivery of goods and services or exercising Aboriginal or treaty rights.
