In Western Australia, a number of restrictions had remained in place since the Perth and Peel regions emerged from lockdown roughly a week ago, including mask wearing, limits on indoor and outdoor gatherings and a ban on visitors at aged-care facilities and hospitals.

"Ministry officials have conducted a rapid public health assessment for New Zealand, and have determined scheduled direct flights from Western Australia to New Zealand should be immediately paused while a further assessment is carried out, including a further assessment and information from Australian health officials", New Zealand's Ministry of Health said.

"We're effectively in a holding pattern and I hope we can avoid going back into lockdown".

Two people were yet to be contacted and attempts to reach them were ongoing, the ministry said.

A flight from Perth that was due to land in Auckland at 5.50am on Sunday has since been cancelled.

The Covid-19 vaccine is only mandatory for crew members on managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) flights - a rule that came into effect at midnight on Friday.

The ministry said Western Australia health officials were meeting to decide whether they would implement further restrictions or a full lockdown.

The remaining passengers who weren't at the locations of interest are advised to monitor their health and if symptoms develop, call Healthline and get a test. Those people are considered casual plus contacts and have been asked to self-isolate and get tested five days after their exposure.

He added the risk was low given the nature of food delivery work typically being low contact, as well as the community "being in a state of semi-lockdown" during the period they were potentially infectious.

A worker at a managed isolation facility in the city and two people he shares accommodation with have tested positive, authorities said.

The hotel quarantine worker, aged in his 20s, is believed to have been infectious in the community for four days, during which time he visited a number of locations including a shopping centre and a Coles.

"There is also one new historical case to report".

Both positive cases revealed in routine testing on April 24 stayed on the same floor the guard was working.

It is the second outbreak of Covid-19 in Perth in 10 days.
