At least 11 dead, including children, in Russian school shooting

She said their teacher told them to stay in the room and they did not leave until the police arrived.

Local officials noted that some of the children were evacuated from the school, while others still remained in the building.

Children are among 11 victims killed in a shooting at a school in Kazan, according to Russian state media reports.

The other attacker was killed, Russia's Tass news agency reported. The state-run RIA Novosti news agency reported that two more students died after jumping from a third-floor window, citing a source in the emergency services, but these deaths have not been confirmed.

"I was in class, I first heard an explosion, then gunshots", TASS quoted a teacher as saying.

The regional prosecutor's office in the republic of Tatarstan said it has begun looking into the shooting and the regional prosecutor has been deployed to the scene. One of the last major incidents happened in Russian-annexed Crimea in 2018.

After appearing in court Friday morning over the new federal charges against them, all three were released on $25,000 bond . He has filed a request for a new trial, citing issues including the judge's refusal to move the trial due to publicity.

Minnikhanov said a 19-year-old "terrorist" had been arrested.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to families of the victims and those injured in the shooting, and ordered the government to revise gun regulations in light of the attack.

He was shown in camera footage wearing a similar T-shirt to Eric Harris, one of the killers in the 1999 Columbine High School shooting in the USA, which left 13 people dead.

The shooting led to calls for tighter gun control in Russian Federation.

The country's FSB security service says it has prevented dozens of armed attacks on schools in recent years.

In February previous year the FSB said it had detained two teenagers on suspicion of plotting an attack on a school in the city of Saratov with weapons and homemade explosives.
