His comments came hours after the CDC announced that people who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 do not need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors, except under certain circumstances.

Vaccinated members of the media will not need to wear a mask at President Biden's Covid-19 remarks this afternoon either, according to a White House official.

The science has shown that those who are fully vaccinated - 2 weeks since their second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or since having a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine - are protected against COVID-19, said Walensky.

The AP reports that during a virtual meeting between Biden and a bipartisan group of governors Thursday, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox called for more freedom for those who are already vaccinated.

"We followed the science here", said Walensky, adding, "a coalescence of more science that has emerged just in the last week". While this may serve as an incentive for some people to get vaccinated, that is not the objective.
