Local media said a 39-year-old British woman, who was being treated at Nicosia General Hospital with a major blood clot, passed away on the weekend, with Cypriot authorities still unsure whether her death was directly linked to a COVID vaccine she had received three weeks earlier.

The province's Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe announced Tuesday that a man in his 40s had died a few weeks after getting the first dose of the vaccine at the end of April.

"While the investigation is ongoing and a final cause of death has yet to be officially determined, it has been confirmed that the individual did have VITT at the time of his death", Yaffe said Tuesday.

But it has resumed the administration of AstraZeneca for second doses only as it rushes to use up 45,000 doses that are set to expire next week.

Earlier, CITF informed that over 300,000 slots for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine had been booked as of 12.56pm today, less than an hour after the registration opened to people aged under 60.

After hearing about unfilled appointments over the weekend, Sue called the provincial hotline, hoping to book her parents, who are in their 80's, appointments for second shots. I'll be honest and say I'd be slightly concerned that we minimise the level of changes, unless there's a very clear public health argument in favour of it because the vaccination programme really is working now, ' said Mr Ryan.

Vaccines highly effective against B.1.617.2 variant after 2 doses
The study analysed data from the six weeks between April 5 and May 16 to cover the period since the variant emerged in England . There had been concerns the emergence of the new variant, first identified in India , could blow that plan off course.

Almost one million people in Ontario aged 40 and older have received the AstraZeneca vaccine. "They fully intend to contact all their customers and individuals that received the AstraZeneca dose so give them the opportunity to do that", she said.

The province now has more than 300,000 doses in stock.

"I've seen people coming in who have had one dose but yet are very sick and even have died afterwards", he explains.

In mid-May, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said the decision to no longer offer AstraZeneca as a first shot was made as the province receives larger shipments of other vaccines, such as Pfizer and Moderna. People in Toronto, Windsor and Kingston who were vaccinated as part of the province's AstraZeneca pharmacy pilot program in March can now get their shots, shortening their vaccination wait from 16 weeks to 10 or 12 weeks. "The good point is that we have lots of people who are eager to get their second doses". "The batch of 72,000 AstraZeneca doses will be here tomorrow or by Thursday", he said, but noted that Unicef is the one to determine when they will be delivered.

"We don't want to have people queuing up for the second dose while we have people still waiting for their first dose", he said.
