Police, FBI seek motive in California shooting rampage

The suspect in a mass shooting that killed nine at a San Jose, California, light rail yard was found dead with two semiautomatic handguns and 11 magazines with ammunition nearby, officials said Thursday.

The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner identified the victims as Paul Delacruz Megia, 42; Taptejdeep Singh, 36; Adrian Balleza, 29; Jose Dejesus Hernandez, 35; Timothy Michael Romo, 49; Michael Joseph Rudometkin, 40; Abdolvahab Alaghmandan, 63, and Lars Kepler Lane, 63.

The shooter's motive has not been identified by law enforcement.

Police and Santa Clara County Sheriff's agents received multiple 911 calls around 6:30 am.

The suspect had worked for the transit authority since at least 2012, when he was listed as an "electro-mechanic", and was promoted to "substation maintainer" in 2015, according to records posted by the nonprofit website Transportation California.

His ex-wife filed a restraining order against him in 2009, according to court records.

The VTA shut down rail service at noon as the search by the bombers continued.

Trump issued a statement last week complaining that he's being "unfairly attacked and abused by a corrupt political system". It is not yet clear when, or even if, the grand jury will be asked to consider returning any indictments.

San Jose, a city of about 1 million residents, lies at the heart of Silicon Valley, a global technology hub and home to some of America's biggest high-tech companies.

"He just thought that some people got more easy-going things at work, and he'd get the harder jobs", she said.

The mass shooting, first reported at 6:34 a.m. local time, occurred at 101 W. Younger Avenue - not far from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office and San Jose Police Department. Investigators found hundreds of round of ammunition in the suspect's home, after the premises was swept by an Federal Bureau of Investigation bomb squad.

In a statement from the White House, U.S.President Joe Biden said he and Vice President Kamala Harris had been briefed on the shootings.

The shooting took place a little before 10 a.m.

Last month, a former employee of an Indianapolis FedEx center shot eight workers to death before taking his own life.

"We are still awaiting numerous details of this latest mass shooting, but there are some things we know for sure", President Joe Biden said in a statement on Wednesday.
