Known for his colourful love life, 56-year-old Johnson Wednesday Symonds, 33, in front of close friends and family, the Mail on Sunday and The Sun newspapers first reported.

Johnson is the second British prime minister to marry during his tenure, after Robert Jenkinson, who assumed the premiership two centuries ago and married in 1822 while he was holding this position.

The marriage ceremony was a surprise after it was reported earlier this week that Johnson and his fiancée are preparing for a wedding that will be held on July 30 of next year.

However, they have been waiting months to tie the knot after their original plans to marry previous year were delayed by the pandemic. The couple has a one-year-old boy named Wilfred.

Weddings in England are now limited to 30 people due to COVID-19 restrictions.

A small number of church officials were involved in preparations for the Catholic ceremony, which was officiated by Father Daniel Humphreys, the Daily Mail added.

However, The Sun tabloid said the couple had been planning the "cloak and danger operation" for a secret ceremony for up to six months.

There were no descriptions of Johnson's attire, with the mop-haired British leader infamous for his often dishevelled appearance.

A member of the opposition Labour Party, Jon Trickett, suggested the wedding was "a good way to bury this week's bad news" on Cummings' testimony and the report on the funding of the Downing Street flat.

The wedding comes at the end of a hard week for the Prime Minister in which his former aide Dominic Cummings branded him unfit for office.

Johnson's last marriage was to Marina Wheeler, a lawyer. The couple finalised their divorce last November.

Johnson also reportedly has a daughter born as the result of an affair.

Johnson, 56, and Symonds, 33, have been living together in Downing Street since Johnson became prime minister in 2019.

On Friday, a government ethics adviser released his long-awaited findings on the "cash for curtains" scandal in which Johnson was criticized for failing to disclose that a wealthy Conservative Party donor had paid for the redecoration of the prime minister's official residence in London.
