India reports 1,14460 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 2 months

India has the world's second-largest number of coronavirus infections after the USA with total cases of 28.8 million, according to health ministry data.

Provincial health officials logged 663 new cases of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus today, the lowest single-day tally in Ontario since October 18.

Down from yesterday's 1,32,364 cases, India today reported 1,20,529 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the country's infection tally to 2,86,94,879, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday.

Active Covid-19 caseload in India declined to 14,77,799 on Sunday as 1,89,232 patients recovered from the coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours.

The fatalities witnessed a spike, crossing 3,000 mark on Saturday once again after recording over 2,000 deaths in the last two days, the Times of India newspaper said.

With 22,645 tests processed over the past 24 hours, the province is reporting a positivity rate of 2.8 per cent. The following day, 115,736 new cases were reported.

The death toll from COVID-19 climbed to 3,44,082 with 3,380 new fatalities, while the number of active cases was recorded below 20 lakh for the fifth consecutive day, the data updated at 8 am showed.

As many as 231,322,417 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far. The weekly positivity rate, meanwhile, stands at 6.54 per cent. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 36,11,74,142 samples have been tested up to June 4 for Covid-19. It has been less than 10% for 13 consecutive days, the ministry said.
