But critics were quick to slam the West Virginia Democrat's argument as incoherent, noting that his opposition to the For the People Act on the grounds that it's too partisan virtually ensures congressional inaction in the face of the GOP's sweeping partisan attacks on voting rights nationwide.

The For The People Act can't fail in theory ... but then there is Democrat Joe Manchin who has stood to say, "It is not in the best interest of the American people ..."

"This commission passed the House with a bipartisan vote". Congressional Democrats overwhelmingly support it, with Republicans equally opposed.

'I will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster'.

"Congress must come together - just as we have done time and again - to reaffirm our longstanding bipartisan commitment to free, accessible, and secure elections for all", Manchin and Murkowski wrote May 17. But they aren't alone, with as many as 10 Democratic senators also reluctant to change the rules.

The bill will require states to expand mail voting, which was widely used in last year's presidential election due to the coronavirus pandemic, and it will also extend the time for in-person voting.

Manchin penned in his op/ed on Sunday: '[V] oting and election reform that is done in a partisan manner will all but ensure partisan divisions continue to deepen'.

'They've attempted to demonize the filibuster and conveniently ignore how it has been critical to protecting the rights of Democrats in the past'.

January 6 commission fails in Senate
As it was conceived, 10 people, five appointed by Democrats and five appointed by Republicans make up the January 6 Commission. Patsy inkbecame the first Asian American woman and first woman of color to be elected to the US House of Representatives.

If enacted, the

Democrats saw their majority in the House of Representatives eroded in the November 2020 elections, but won an effective majority by one in the Senate due to Vice President Kamala Harris' formal role as chair of the upper chamber. Our founders wisely saw the temptation of absolute power and established specific checks and balances to force compromise to protect us.

With the full Senate expected to vote on the bill this month, voting rights organizations are planning to "ratchet up pressure on Democrats.in coming weeks to do whatever it takes to pass the federal voting legislation they view as key to counteracting the blitz of new voting restrictions in Republican-led states", CNN reported Sunday. Do we really want to live in an America where one party can dictate and demand everything and anything it wants, whenever it wants?

"My Republican colleague, Sen".

U.S. President Joe Biden offered to scrap his proposed corporate tax hike during negotiations with Republicans, two sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday, in what would be a major concession by the Democratic president as he works to hammer out an infrastructure deal.

Federal law, which Mr. Manchin opposes, is the minimum standard for early voting, which was widespread before the official election date on November 3, and mail voting, which invalidates some of the state's Republican voting laws.

"For as long as I have the privilege of being your USA senator, I will fight to represent the people of West Virginia, to seek bipartisan compromise no matter how hard and to develop the political bonds that end divisions and help unite the country we love", he said. It is my honest hope that all of us, especially those who are privileged to serve, remember our responsibility to do more to unite this country before it is too late.
