United Kingdom auto manufacturers have called for smooth links "closer to home" following the United Kingdom government agreeing a free trade deal with Australia yesterday (Jun 15).

The deal increases the working holiday visa age limit from 30 to 35 for Australians and Britons wanting to work and live in each other's countries.

He said: "MPs must do all they can to prevent a culture of "ignore the warnings, get it done and deal with the consequences later" predominating when it comes to this and other trade deals".

Downing Street did not deny the reports and, if confirmed, the agreement would be the first trade deal negotiated from scratch since the UK's exit from the European Union.

"The UK will liberalise Australian imports with 99 per cent of Australian goods, including Australian wine and short and medium grain milled rice, entering the UK duty free when the agreement enters into force".

Speaking from London, Scott Morrison said the historic agreement could be worth up to $1.3 billion a year to Australia and will offer exporters a move away from the volatile Chinese market.

"The cumulative impact of all such trade deals on extremely vulnerable sectors such as farming, food and drink could be hugely destructive". "Australian farming allows the use of 71 highly hazardous substances and thousands more types of pesticides that are now banned in the U.K".

The brooch was made by Melbourne company William Drummond & Co in 1954 and presented to Queen Elizabeth on her first visit to Australia in 1954 - also the first visit to the country by a reigning monarch.

Trade body the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) welcomed the free trade agreement.

However, the inferences will offer some security and respite to people who have recently recovered from COVID-19. The average seven-day COVID-19 hospitalization number has also plummeted since April due to vaccinations.

Chief executive Karen Betts said: "This will help Scotch whisky distillers continue to expand exports to Australia, which have nearly doubled over the last decade, making Australia our eighth largest market by value".

"It's also important to us that trade with Australia is now tariff-free for Scotch whisky - our preference is always for tariff-free trade, which enables Scotch whisky to compete on a level playing field and on the strength of our reputation for quality".

It's targeting membership of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a trade agreement among Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.

A similar deal "would be very good news for our economy" and for New Zealanders working in Britain.

"Scotland's financial services, manufacturing and pharmaceutical sectors will also receive a boost".

"I will stand up our farmers and our high animal welfare standards and will continue to fight for them in Parliament".

The UK hopes to conclude more trade deals in the Asia Pacific region.

The National Farmers Union (NFU) Cymru has said it will need to see the details of the 15-year cap before reaching a decision on whether Welsh and British farmers are being protected.
